Indonesia’s long history of national insight is a crucial foundation for the younger generation, particularly university students. Through active participation and critical awareness, students not only preserve the nation’s heritage but also shape a more inclusive, sovereign, and ambitious future for Indonesia.

Students play a crucial role in maintaining and strengthening national insight. In addition to being agents of change, students are often the driving force behind the nation’s struggle, such as during the 1998 Reformation.

Today, students are required to be more active in voicing the values of unity and tolerance, and combating hoaxes and ideologies that undermine national unity, both in the real world and online.

By grounding the values of friendship in campus and community life, students help ensure Indonesia remains strong within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

National insight can be defined as a conceptual perspective related to the characteristics or identity of a nation. According to the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), “wawasan” means the result of insight or a view, while “nationality” refers to the characteristics that characterize a group of people.

Thus, national insight encompasses an understanding and awareness of national identity and the values that unite the nation.

To broaden national insight, a nation must understand the Basic Values of National Insight. When the nation understands its identity, it will further enhance its national insight and apply the values ​​of the 4.0 era.

As the successors of the nation, students play a crucial role in spreading national insight, by applying the values ​​given to human dignity and dignity, students are able to respect each other across ethnicities, cultures, and religions.

The value of love for the homeland is a challenge for students in the 4.0 era who are very easily tempted by foreign lifestyle agreements, but when students realize their identity, they will be able to increase their love for the homeland by participating in celebrating August 17th, and introducing Indonesian culture through social media.

The role of the younger generation is crucial and multifaceted. They are the nation’s successors and have great potential to shape the country’s future. Among other things, building superior character requires the younger generation to be equipped with strong character and national identity to face the challenges of globalization.

The younger generation will face the impacts of globalization directly, so they need to be prepared to face these challenges.

In the Indonesian context, Pancasila can serve as a foundation for fostering nationalism and patriotism among the younger generation in the era of globalization. Civics also plays a crucial role in shaping the character of the younger generation, especially the younger generation.

The concept of friendship is crucial for today’s youth. In this era of globalization, we are often influenced by external cultures on social media, which divides us and sometimes leads us to forget our own national identity. Yet, as young people, we have a responsibility to maintain national unity and identity.

Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) reminds us that despite our diverse cultures, religions, and traditions, we remain one united nation. As the younger generation, we must learn to respect, accept, and appreciate these differences in order to build a peaceful and strong Indonesia.

Several important points regarding the role of students in implementing national insight education to society in the digital era:

1. Agent of Change

Students are known as agents of social change. In the context of national insight education, students have a strategic role:

  • Disseminating the values of nationalism and patriotism through social media, blogs, and digital forums;
  • Setting an example by behaving in accordance with the values of Pancasila and Bhineka Tunggal Ika.

2. Digital Educator

Students can act as informal educators for the community, especially the younger generation, by:

  • Creating educational content on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or podcasts;
  • Hosting webinars, online discussions, or virtual classes on national history, the Pancasila ideology, and the importance of unity.

3. Antidote to Radicalism and Hoaxes

In the digital age, much information is provocative, radical, or even fake. Students can:

  • Promote digital literacy in the community so they can sort through information;
  • Create counter-narrative content that opposes radicalism and intolerance;
  • Be active in communities or organizations that promote digital literacy and peace.

4. Bridge between Government and Society

Students have the capacity to bridge communication between the government and society, particularly in conveying:

  • National programs or digital nationalism;
  • Government regulations or policies related to national privacy in language that is easily understood by the public.

5. Educational Technology Innovation Developers

Students from various fields, particularly IT and education, can:

  • Create applications, educational games, or interactive digital platforms that teach national values;
  • Innovate in methods for presenting national insight material to make it more engaging and relevant to the digital generation.

6. Building a National Care Community

Students can form communities or join organizations that focus on:

  • Social activities with a nationalist theme;
  • Community service that incorporates national values;
  • Digital campaigns such as #LoveIndonesia, #UnitedYouth, or #NationalInsight.
