The cases of hazing that occurred during orientation at various campuses in 2023-2024 show that this practice is still a serious problem in the world of Indonesian education. Hazing, in both physical and psychological forms, undermines the main purpose of campus orientation activities, which are supposed to help new students adapt to their academic and social environment.

First, the case at Brawijaya University (UB) During the orientation activity “Raja Brawijaya 2023,” where dozens of new students fainted during orientation showed poor management of the activity. Students were reported to be exhausted because they were not given enough time or guidance to maintain their physical condition during the event. This shows a lack of attention to the welfare of new students which can lead to health hazards.

Another case at the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) during the orientation event entitled “Pesona Ta’aruf (PESTA) 2023”, there was negligence on the part of the committee in providing adequate food for orientation participants, which resulted in mass poisoning. This incident shows not only the lack of preparation, but also the serious risks faced by new students when the event management system is not implemented properly.

Finally, the most striking case occurred at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta, where new students were forced to register for an online loan application as part of the orientation activities. This is a form of exploitation that cannot be justified, showing that orientation is sometimes used as a tool for interests outside of education and campus introduction.

In conclusion, these cases show that hazing and violations during orientation are forms of injustice that must be stopped. The campus must take full responsibility in creating a safe, supportive, and learning-oriented environment for new students. Without comprehensive management improvements, similar cases will continue to occur, harming the physical and mental health of students who are just starting their academic journey.
