Arabic Language Learning System at al-ismiah Islamic Boarding School

Arabic should be taught to those who possess the ability to learn the language. The process of learning Arabic involves a deeper study and utilizes technology to enhance effectiveness.

Vocabulary learning can facilitate and attract students’ interest, motivating them to learn, (abdullah, 2021).

Motivation can be seen as the key to success in various aspects, despite differing opinions on its definition and categorization.

Motivation also plays a vital role in ensuring students’ success (hakim, 2020) In the learning process, educational institutions play a crucial role in determining students’ success.

Assessment of learning outcomes is a routine activity conducted in educational institutions to evaluate the extent of students’ potential in achieving the established educational targets.

In language learning, there are tests or exams that serve as tools for individual evaluation, especially in schools or universities, as part of the learning plan and student assessment.

Listening skills (maharah istima) are an important aspect of the Arabic language learning process, particularly for students.

Currently, the educational process has undergone changes in line with the evolving times, driven by the utilization of digital technology.

This technology is used as a means in the learning and evaluation process. Learning evaluation is an activity conducted by teachers to assess whether there has been improvement in students’ abilities.

(jami, 2023). In addition to the command to learn and seek knowledge, Islam also bestows a special recognition upon those who are committed to continuous learning and self-development.

The Quran contains numerous verses that elevate the status of knowledgeable individuals and highlight the esteemed position of

scholars, as well as the virtues of learning.

Among these is the verse from Allah SWT that states : (“O you who have believed, when you are told, ‘Make room in the assemblies,’ then make room; Allah will make room for you. And when you are told, ‘Rise up,’ then rise up; Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

” This verse emphasizes the importance of knowledge and the elevated status of those who possess it, as well as the significance of responding positively to calls for learning and community engagement).

Method

The method used in this study aims to create references and distinguish between various articles discussing the differences between articles used as references and research on results related to proficiency in foreign languages.

The method used in this study is library research. Library research is one of the approaches used in qualitative research.

Data analysis and conclusions are drawn through three steps: Editing, organizing, and inference. This research collects data related to the study, which is then grouped and compared between one article and another that share similarities in this research.

Naskhi (2020) Arabic is religiously important, but it doesn’t significantly impact students’ learning motivation.Supports the finding that religious importance alone is not enough to engage learners.

Lukito (2022)  Mastery of speaking (kalam) requires strategic vocabulary use. Emphasizes the need for methodical teaching focused on speaking. Razif (2019) In pesantren, Arabic is used actively in daily communication. Highlights the necessity of immersive and practical learning environments.

Religious significance alone is insufficient; strong motivational and strategic approaches are essential in teaching Arabic.

Learning media like PowerPoint should be supported by proper guidance for students to understand and use them efficiently.

There is a need for more innovative teaching methods, such as collaborative learning, active learning, and the effective use of digital technology (e.g., ADDIE model).

General Problems in Arabic Language Learning

Low Student Motivation and Attitude although Arabic is the language of the Qur’an and Hadith, this does not automatically influence students’ motivation or learning outcomes (Naskhi, 2020).

Ineffective Use of Media and Teaching Methods many students do not fully understand how to use PowerPoint or other learning media, which negatively affects their comprehension and performance.

Lack of Speaking Skills (Kalam) A majority of students have not achieved the minimum learning mastery in speaking.

Only 31.25% of students scored ≥79, while 68.75% scored below the required level.

Limited Resources (Teachers and Learning Media) A shortage of qualified teachers and limited collaborative learning approaches hinder the creation of interactive and engaging learning environments.

Low Self-Efficacy and Perception Students with low self-efficacy tend to become discouraged easily, which affects their persistence and ability to acquire Arabic skills.

Solutions

To address the low achievement in Arabic language learning, particularly in speaking skills, the following solutions can be implemented: Strengthening Interactive Methods The use of interactive learning methods such as group discussions, conversation simulations, language games, and interactive technologies like quiz applications (e.g., Wondershare Quiz Creator) should be optimized to increase student engagement and reduce boredom.

Improving Teacher Competence Teachers should receive regular training on the development of modern teaching media and student-centered learning techniques to enhance the quality of instruction.

Personalized Learning Approach Providing special attention to students with lower proficiency through additional tutoring, psychological support, and motivational encouragement can help them overcome their lack of confidence in learning Arabic.

Optimizing Formative Evaluation should not only serve as a final assessment tool but also function as a continuous diagnostic tool to identify students’ learning difficulties and improve instructional strategies. Collaboration

Between School and Parents Strengthening the cooperation between the boarding school and parents in monitoring student progress, including encouraging simple Arabic communication at home or in the dormitory, can reinforce daily language use.

Results and Discussion

Teachers conducted research by preparing tools consisting of lesson plans and elements for assessing speaking skills (maharat al-kalam).

The basic components of learning are as follows : Demonstrate the ability to give and request information related

to the profession, paying attention to grammatical structure اﻟﻤﺼﺪراﻟﺼﺮﯾﺢboth verbally

and in writing.

From the table above, it can be explained that by applying Arabic PowerPoint media, the average score for speaking skills practice was 76.75, and the learning completeness rate was 31.25%.

These results indicate that, first, students have not yet achieved learning mastery, as only 31.25% of students achieved a score of ≥79, which is lower than the expected mastery rate of 85%.

Based on the analysis of the research results, it can be concluded that the use of interviews in the classroom illustrates an interactive Arabic language learning method that actively involves students.

Through opening and greetings, the use of materials through songs, discussions, group work, and closing with prayers, all are designed to create an effective and supportive learning atmosphere.

Teachers play an active role in guiding and correcting students, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to learn and participate.

The implementation of collaborative learning can be an appropriate solution when facing issues such as a shortage of teachers or factors affecting learning motivation, such as overcrowded classrooms.

This method could also become a new standard in the teaching and learning of Arabic communication in the future, provided it is handled wisely and takes into account relevant aspects for other individuals.
