Unique Innovation of UHAMKA Economic Education Students in Creative Economy Class

Unique! UHAMKA students must pay a fine of Rp1,000 if they say inappropriate words in class

Unique Deal Only in Creative Economy Class of Economic Education FKIP UHAMKA

UHAMKA, Jakarta – What would happen if the lecture class was equipped with a fine for anyone who uttered inappropriate words?

That is what is being carried out by students of the Economics Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka (UHAMKA), in one of their courses “Creative Economy”.

This activity took place in a different atmosphere from the usual lectures. Students and lecturers agreed on a fairly unique rule.

This rule does not aim to suppress students, but rather to encourage them to get used to maintaining ethics and manners in speaking, especially in discussions that involve debating ideas.

Serious Debate, Ethics Remain

After the rules were enforced, students were immediately involved in a debate session themed “Creative Economy as a Strategic Solution to Global Challenges.”

This debate was not only a place to debate arguments, but also an exercise in conveying ideas with good structure and mutual respect.

The participants expressed diverse views, from the potential of the creative economy as a support for MSMEs, to the role of the younger generation in breaking into international markets through local products and digitalization.

The atmosphere of the debate was dynamic, energetic, yet orderly thanks to a commitment to maintaining speech ethics.

Learning from Expo Osaka 2025

Not only debating, students were also invited to see firsthand how Indonesia’s creative economy appears on the international stage.

They watched news broadcasts about the Indonesian Pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025 which showcased the richness of the archipelago’s culture, innovation, and the power of economic diplomacy.

From the broadcast, students were asked to make a resume and present it briefly in front of the class.

This activity aims to hone the ability to convey information briefly, clearly, and interestingly. Skills that are needed in today’s era of fast communication.

Global Analysis, Sharpened Critical Mind

In closing, students were given a final assignment to analyze the impact of Indonesia’s participation in Expo Osaka from various aspects of economy, culture, tourism, to international diplomacy.

This becomes a reflective learning space that encourages students to think across disciplines and consider Indonesia’s position in the global arena.

A Learning Innovation Worthy of Emulation

What is done in this Creative Economy class shows that lectures can be a meaningful, fun, and character-building learning experience.

Small initiatives such as fines can be an effective way to instill important values, communication ethics, mutual respect, and critical and global thinking skills.

In an increasingly complex world, this approach to learning is a good example of how higher education should not only teach theory, but also prepare students to be resilient, ethical, and ready to contribute.

If you want to be part of the excitement of creative economy classes, let’s register as an UHAMKA economic education student. Learn to be creative, productive, different!
